RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To provide balanced consideration of the opportunities and challenges associated with integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) throughout the medical school continuum. PROCESS: Narrative review of published literature contextualized by current reports of LLM application in medical education. CONCLUSIONS: LLMs like OpenAI's ChatGPT can potentially revolutionize traditional teaching methodologies. LLMs offer several potential advantages to students, including direct access to vast information, facilitation of personalized learning experiences, and enhancement of clinical skills development. For faculty and instructors, LLMs can facilitate innovative approaches to teaching complex medical concepts and fostering student engagement. Notable challenges of LLMs integration include the risk of fostering academic misconduct, inadvertent overreliance on AI, potential dilution of critical thinking skills, concerns regarding the accuracy and reliability of LLM-generated content, and the possible implications on teaching staff.

RESUMO

Acute methanol intoxication is uncommon. Methanol is mildly toxic, but its metabolites are formic acid and formaldehyde, causing total metabolism, visual disturbances, and central nervous system disturbances, leading to coma and death. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is very important for the diagnosis and prognosis of methanol intoxication. Putaminal necrosis with or without hemorrhage is the most frequently reported finding. Other affected areas that are reported in the literature are subcortical white matter, hippocampus, optic nerve, and cerebellum. We report 3 cases of methanol intoxication and discuss their brain lesions on MRI.

RESUMO

A 20-year-old male was admitted with the history of a traumatic head injury after traffic accident. The physical examination revealed blurred vision, swelling of the right face, and minor epistaxis. CT and MRI findings revealed a giant pseudoaneurysm of cavernous carotid artery. The patient was enrolled endovascular coils embolization of the internal carotid artery. After the procedure, the patient recovered well. Endovascular treatment is an effective therapy in cavernous carotid pseudoaneurysm.

RESUMO

Intra-abdominal venous malformations and inferior vena cava aneurysms are rare and difficult to diagnose because of their nonspecific clinical symptoms. These vascular anomalies are important entities due to the risk of thrombosis or rupture. According to the classification of International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies, venous malformations are classified as low-flow vascular anomalies, showing absence of arterial and early venous enhancement and slow gradual filling with contrast on delayed venous imaging. Phleboliths related to thrombosis and calcifications, are the key finding of venous malformations. In this article, we report an exceptional case of large intra-abdominal venous malformations in associated with an inferior vena cava aneurysm.
